Katherine Lee, Postpartum Doula
I first felt called to serve mothers and babies when I began instructing prenatal and postnatal yoga classes, and birth preparation workshops, and then became a mother myself. I journeyed with birthing families and witnessed their transformation into parenthood. I felt the support and connection from other parents as I lived my own profound transformation. Later, I completed the DONA International Postpartum Doula training through the Simkin Center at Bastyr University, and then became a certified postpartum doula.
I can think of no work more rewarding than serving families as they welcome their new babies. I hold sacred the postpartum time known as the Golden Month or "4th Trimester", when mother and baby(ies) are still very much one. The 4th Trimester may encompass the many weeks and months of healing, bonding and transformation of a mother and her family. It is my passion to help parents find ease, and be present for this unique time by offering emotional and practical support, nurturing and nourishing the mother and her household, and providing education and resources as needed. I cocoon the mother as much as she desires so that she may re-emerge with restored energy and confidence, and take her place at the center of her family.
When I am not holding babies or cooking for postpartum families, my family and I travel, read about travel, take cooking classes on our travels, and dream about travel. We spend a lot of time snuggling our kittens, Jooni and Kumo. We also go camping, bike riding, and rockhounding. I love to learn new recipes, sleep, read, and tend our home garden and community garden.
